How to seek Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadan

Laylat al-Qadr is the most blessed of all nights. A person who misses it has indeed missed a lot of good. If a believer is eager to obey his Lord and wants to increase his good deeds, he will strive to capture this night and spend it in worship and obedience. If it is easy for him, all his previous sins will be forgiven.

Praying qiyaam at Laylat al-Qadr

It is recommended to make a long qiyyam (night prayer) during the nights Laylat al-Qadr is expected to occur. This is indicated in many hadeeths (stories from the Prophet (peace be upon him) life).

To note. Abu Dawud mentioned: "I heard Ahmad being asked," Do you prefer a man prays with the people or to himself during Ramadan? "He replied, 'Pray with the people," I heard him also say: "I would prefer that someone pray (qiyaam) with the imam and pray Witr (trailing rak'ahs to complete the day's prayers) with him, too, because the Prophet (peace be upon him ) said: "When a man prays with the imam until he finishes, it is recorded that he prayed the rest of the evening." [Masaa'il]]

Making Du'a (supplication)

It is also recommended to make Du'a (supplication) that night. 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that she asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say during it? "And he (peace be upon him) instructed her to say:

" Allahumma innaka` afuwwun tuh.ibbul `AFWA fa` fu` année - O Allah! You are forgiving, and you love forgiveness. So please forgive me. "[Reported by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmidhi. Authentic as al Albani]

To abandon worldly pleasures for the sake of worship

It is recommended that you spend more time in worship during the nights when Laylat al-Qadr is expected to be. This calls for abandoning many worldly pleasures in order to give time and thought only to worship Allah. 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "When the last ten days (of Ramadan) began, the Prophet (peace be upon him) tighten its izaar (a kind of skirt worn as a base in a costume) ie he stayed away from his wives in order to have more time for worship, spend the whole night awake (in prayer), and wake his family "[Al-Bukhari and Muslim] she (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

"the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to exert more worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan, than the other nights" [Muslim]
